Master the Art of Writing in PTE: Spell and Type Like a Pro
Hello, PTE champs-in-training!
Let's start by saying hello and giving a friendly nod to those of us who sometimes (and let's be honest, that's all of us at some point) have trouble writing and typing. Don't worry, you're in good company.
We're here to give you some great tips that will help you deal with those hard words and keys with ease. Say goodbye to those annoying mistakes with this blog!
Your Secret Weapon: Proofreading
Think of yourself as a spelling detective with a magnifying glass, searching your text carefully for mistakes. Your secret tool is to read out loud. It's like shining a light on those mistakes that are hard to find.
Here's a pro tip: read your text backwards, word by word, to find writing mistakes that may be right in front of your eyes.
Example 1: "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." Reading it backward: "dog lazy the over jumps fox brown quick The." This technique makes each word stand out, revealing any spelling oddities.
Example 2: "I am so
exccited to take the PTE exma tomorrow." Reading it backward: "tomorrow exma PTE the take to exccited so am I." You'll spot the misspelled "exccited" and "exma" instantly!
Play it Safe with Spell Check
Don't forget how powerful technology can be!
Get in touch with your inner tech expert and let word check help you out. But be careful, auto-correct can be a friend who plays tricks on you. For example, if you accidentally type "I'm feeling board," word check might "fix" it to "I'm feeling bored." Before taking an idea, you should always look it over.
Example 1: You're typing away, and your fingers slip: "I have a doctor's appoinment tomorrow." Spell check suggests: "I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow." Hooray for catching that sneaky error!
Example 2: You meant to write: "The weather is beautiful today." But spell check suggests: "The weather is beauty full today." See how it almost tricked you? Stay vigilant!
Typing Speed: Slow and Steady Wins the Race
Imagine that you type as smoothly as a piano playing a beautiful tune. Slow down a bit and make sure you hit each key correctly. Treat your keyboard like a musical instrument, where every click adds to the symphony of error-free writing.
Example 1: Instead of rushing through, type deliberately: "Thhe qick broown fox jumpss ovver thhe laazy dog." The deliberate approach minimises errors and boosts typing accuracy.
Example 2: Type slowly and watch your fingers dance: "My frriend and I are exxcited about the PTE exxam." Every key press matters, and your text becomes a masterpiece of precision.
Homophones: The Sneaky Culprits
"Two," "to," and "too" all sound the same, but they each do something different.
Homophones are words that sound the same but mean different things. Be vigilant. Double-check your usage of words that sound the same but mean different things.
Example 1: "They're going to their house." Each "their" has a different role. One is a contraction of "they are," while the other indicates possession. Know which is which!
Example 2: "Your going to love this." "Your" should be "You're," which stands for "you are." Keep these differences in mind to conquer homophone challenges.
